Volunteer Opportunities in Tidewater

HOA Committees

Our committees help guide the direction of the community and support the Board of Directors. Committee members typically commit to monthly meetings and occasional projects throughout the year.

Architectural Review Committee

Purpose: Reviews homeowner modification requests to ensure consistency with community design standards and governing documents.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve/deny exterior modification applications
  • Ensure compliance with community design guidelines
  • Conduct periodic reviews of community appearance
  • Recommend updates to architectural standards as needed

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours/month

Ideal For: Residents with backgrounds in architecture, design, construction, or real estate - or anyone with a keen eye for aesthetics and attention to detail.

Grounds and Landscaping Committee

Purpose: Oversees the maintenance and enhancement of common areas, including the pond, nature reserve, and community landscaping.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor condition of common area landscaping
  • Recommend improvements and seasonal plantings
  • Coordinate with landscaping contractors
  • Plan and oversee the Adopt-a-Tree program
  • Address pond and creek maintenance needs

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/month (may increase seasonally)

Ideal For: Gardening enthusiasts, nature lovers, or anyone who takes pride in our community's natural beauty.

Events and Social Committee

Purpose: Plans and coordinates community events that bring neighbors together throughout the year.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan annual events (block parties, holiday gatherings, etc.)
  • Coordinate logistics, vendors, and volunteers for events
  • Manage event budgets and track expenses
  • Promote events through newsletters and social media
  • Gather feedback and ideas for new community activities

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/quarter (more during event planning)

Ideal For: Outgoing individuals who enjoy event planning, organizing, and bringing people together.

Communications Committee

Purpose: Keeps residents informed through newsletters, website updates, email communications, and social media.

Responsibilities:

  • Write and distribute community newsletters
  • Maintain and update the HOA website
  • Manage community Facebook page or social media
  • Draft important community announcements
  • Welcome new residents and distribute welcome packets

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/month

Ideal For: Writers, marketing professionals, social media savvy residents, or anyone who enjoys keeping people connected.

Neighborhood Watch Committee

Purpose: Promotes safety and security throughout Tidewater through awareness, communication, and coordination with local authorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with New Albany Police Department
  • Share safety tips and alerts with residents
  • Organize periodic safety awareness initiatives
  • Maintain block captain network
  • Report and track suspicious activity or concerns

Time Commitment: 1-3 hours/quarter

Ideal For: Residents passionate about community safety who want to help neighbors stay informed and secure.

One-Time and Flexible Opportunities

Not ready to join a committee? Event volunteers provide crucial support for community gatherings without an ongoing time commitment. Sign up to help with one event at a time based on your availability.

Volunteer Roles at Events

  • Setup Crew - Help set up tables, chairs, decorations, and signage before events
  • Cleanup Crew - Break down equipment, collect trash, and restore the area after events
  • Greeters - Welcome attendees, hand out name tags, and help newcomers feel at home
  • Food and Beverage - Manage food tables, serve refreshments, or coordinate potluck contributions
  • Kids' Activities - Supervise games, crafts, and activities for children at family events
  • Photographer - Capture photos for the newsletter, website, and community memories
  • Donation Driver - Pick up supplies, transport equipment, or deliver items as needed

Additional Ways to Contribute

  • Welcome New Neighbors - Deliver welcome packets or introduce yourself to new residents on your street
  • Share Your Expertise - Offer professional skills (legal, accounting, IT, design) for specific projects
  • Host a Block Gathering - Organize an informal get-together for your immediate neighbors
  • Contribute Photos - Submit pictures of the neighborhood for our website and newsletter

Board of Directors

For those ready to take on a leadership role, serving on the Board of Directors is the most impactful way to shape our community's future. Board members are elected by homeowners and serve two-year terms.

Board Responsibilities:

  • Set community policies and strategic direction
  • Oversee annual budget and financial health
  • Manage relationships with vendors and management company
  • Ensure enforcement of community rules and covenants
  • Represent homeowner interests in all decisions

Time Commitment: Monthly board meetings plus 3-5 additional hours/month
